In my search for a piano for myself, I met with Dale Erwin and his family in Modesto, CA.
Dale's father started the piano restoration business, now Dale and his two sons - Jacob and Dennis, and his wife Trix all are masters of the craft. They have achieved a reputation in the piano restoration and rebuilding community. Inside of their large work space, there's 6 to 7 simultaneous rebuilding projects going on in various stages. It was fascinating to see and touch all the individual working components inside a 8-foot Steinway concert grand. As a pianist I'm ashamed to admit how little I knew of the actual mechanics inside a piano. The 5000 moving parts take decades of meticulous experience to master.
